Lerdsila USA Seminar Tour by FightBro

FightBro is presenting a limited series of seminars around the U.S. in February and March of 2026 with Lerdsila in California, Texas, Florida, and New York. So who is Lerdsila, and why should you attend his seminar?

Lerdsila Chumpairtour is a name that echoes through Muay Thai circles for good reason. A veteran of over three decades in the sport, he has amassed multiple world titles and stadium championships while barely ever getting hit clean. Nicknamed “The Eel” – or even “The Eel on a Skateboard” – for his slippery, highly evasive fighting style, Lerdsila is widely celebrated as a technical genius in the ring. Now 44 years old, this Thai legend continues to share his mastery as a coach and is still amazing fans with his timeless skill.

Humble Beginnings in Isaan

Lerdsila’s journey started in the rural Isaan region of Thailand, where he grew up as the only child of poor rice farmers. As a small, shy kid, he was often bullied – until his father decided to teach him Muay Thai so he could defend himself. Lerdsila didn’t originally dream of being a fighter; in fact, he admired his schoolteacher and wanted to become a teacher one day. But fate had other plans. At age 7, after some basic training at home, he stepped into the ring for the first time. In a story that has become local lore, his debut bout was against a schoolyard bully who already had ten fights under his belt. Lerdsila had none – yet he knocked out his friend-turned-opponent and won the day. The prize was a mere 100 baht (about $3), but for a young village boy in the 1980s it felt like a fortune, and it lit a fire in him to continue fighting.

Under the guidance of his first real trainer, Ajarn Boonlerd, Lerdsila honed his fundamentals in a small village gym. Boonlerd taught him the crafty footwork and famous lean-back defense that would later define Lerdsila’s style. More importantly, he taught the young fighter about humility and enjoying the journey. Lerdsila stayed at Boonlerd’s provincial camp for over 100 fights – an astonishing number for such a young athlete. By his early teens, the talented kid from Chaiyaphum had outgrown the local circuit. He was sent to the Chumpairtour Gym in a nearby city, where he won the regional Isaan championship three times. His performances caught the attention of scouts from Bangkok’s famed Jocky Gym (a camp known for producing icons like Saenchai and Somrak Khamsing), and at just 15 years old Lerdsila left home to pursue Muay Thai on the big stage.

Dominating the Thai Circuit

Immersed in the elite Bangkok fight scene, Lerdsila quickly became a prodigy at Jocky Gym, training alongside legends and refining his unique style. He proved nearly untouchable in the ring. In fact, early in his stadium career Lerdsila racked up 19 consecutive victories, remaining undefeated for almost two years against top competition. Fighting under the bright lights of Lumpinee and Rajadamnern Stadiums on a weekly basis, the young phenom rose to the very top of Thai Muay Thai. Between 2002 and 2004, Lerdsila conquered three different Rajadamnern Stadium titles – at 115 lb, 118 lb, and 122 lb – making him a three-division champion at one of Thailand’s most prestigious venues. He defended his 122 lb title for years, turning back one challenger after another. By his mid-twenties, he had also collected a cabinet full of world championship belts from organizations like WMC, WBC, WPMF, WLF, and WCK. In total, Lerdsila amassed around 194 wins in 232 fights – a level of longevity and success rarely seen in combat sports. He achieved all of this with a flair and creativity that made him a huge fan favorite in Thailand. As one publication noted, he and his friend Saenchai became “TV show boxers” – known for putting on spectacular performances that wowed audiences every time out.

How many Muay Thai legends can you recognize?

Despite his success, Lerdsila never lost the playful spirit he developed as a kid. He famously said that after hundreds of fights, the most important thing is to enjoy what you’re doing and to always show respect to your opponents. This joyful approach endeared him to Thai fans and kept him motivated through the grind of constant competition. By providing for his parents and achieving superstar status in the sport, the bullied boy from Isaan had truly turned his early hardships into inspiration.

International Adventures and New Challenges

Having dominated in his homeland, Lerdsila eventually set his sights abroad. In the 2010s he became something of a Muay Thai globetrotter, showcasing his skills in international arenas and picking up more hardware along the way. He fought in K-1 kickboxing in Los Angeles in 2012, taking on Canadian champion Gabriel Varga at the Staples Center. A few years later he made a name in China’s Wu Lin Feng league, where he battled top Chinese fighters like Deng Zeqi – winning their trilogy and capturing the WLF world title at 135 lb. Lerdsila also ventured into North American Muay Thai promotions: he claimed the Lion Fight world title in 2017, knocking out an opponent with his signature high kick in front of a U.S. crowd.

In 2018, at the age of 36, Lerdsila joined the global stage of ONE Championship and immediately delighted fans with his vintage style. He won his ONE debut in Macau against young Cambodian star Sok Thy, then defeated him again in a rematch, followed by victories over Japan’s Momotaro and Cyprus’s Savvas Michael. It wasn’t until late 2019 that he finally tasted defeat in ONE, dropping a close decision to French prodigy Elias Mahmoudi. Even as a veteran fighting men nearly 20 years younger, Lerdsila’s agility and ring IQ were on full display during this run.

By 2020, with hundreds of fights behind him, Lerdsila seemed ready to hang up his gloves and focus on teaching. He relocated to Phuket, where he had stints training others at Phuket Top Team (starting around 2015) and later at the new Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA gym. For a while, it looked like he had quietly retired from competition. However, Muay Thai wasn’t done with Lerdsila yet – and a funny twist of fate pulled him back in. In 2024, a friend (and fight promoter) convinced Lerdsila over a night of drinks that he should take one more match. Lerdsila initially said “no” – he was done fighting – but after a few laughs and maybe a few beers, the 42-year-old found himself agreeing to lace up the gloves again. The result was a triumphant comeback. In September 2024, Lerdsila knocked out French fighter Sohanne Bengana in New York to claim the ISKA Intercontinental Super-Lightweight title. Just two months later, he tried something completely different by entering the Karate Combat league; he won a unanimous decision in that new ruleset, proving that even in his forties his versatility and competitive fire were intact. Lerdsila even continued to compete on smaller shows in the U.S. through 2025 – notching wins over seasoned fighters in their twenties and adding to his incredible win total.

A Style Like No Other

Ask any Muay Thai aficionado what makes Lerdsila special, and the answer is almost always his style. Lerdsila embodies the classic Muay Fimeu style – the artful, technical approach – taken to an extraordinary level. Trained from a young age to be fast, elusive, and cerebral in the ring, he became a master of making world-class opponents look foolish. His trademark move is the gravity-defying lean-back defense: time and again, he’ll casually sway his torso backward just inches from a kick, letting it whip past his face by a hair, then smile or counter-strike before his opponent even regains balance. “No matter who was kicking, I would always see it coming and just lean back,” Lerdsila once remarked – a statement that sounds like boasting until you watch him do it. Fans have dubbed him “Mr. Lightning” for his blinding reflexes, and some even compare his slick defensive prowess to boxing’s Floyd Mayweather.

What sets Lerdsila apart is not just his defense, but the playful creativity in his offense. He loves to surprise opponents with techniques borrowed from other martial arts – a spinning kick that looks like Taekwondo here, a backfist or a side step that wouldn’t be out of place in karate there. He’ll feint, taunt, and grin, deliberately trying to break an opponent’s focus or lure them into making mistakes. As a younger fighter at Jocky Gym, Lerdsila studied alongside some of the sport’s most imaginative fighters (Saenchai among them), and he clearly took those lessons to heart. Importantly, he fights with joy: winning or losing isn’t everything to him – he’s said that the thrill of the fight and the respect between fighters matters more. That attitude has made his bouts incredibly entertaining to watch. Whether he’s effortlessly dodging 50 strikes in a round or pulling off a cheeky sweep, you can tell Lerdsila is having fun in there. It’s a mindset that not only earned him numerous championships, but also a reputation as one of the most elusive and creative fighters in Muay Thai history.

Passing on the Torch

After accomplishing so much, Lerdsila has turned to giving back to the sport he loves. In Thailand, he’s now a beloved Muay Thai coach, known for his patience and sense of humor with students. Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA in Phuket is proud to have him on their coaching staff, where he mentors both rising fighters and hobbyists from around the world. Even MMA superstars recognize Lerdsila’s expertise – UFC legend Georges St-Pierre recently sought him out at Bangtao just to experience holding pads with the Muay Thai wizard. Lerdsila’s influence continues to spread globally through seminars and workshops. He has traveled to dozens of countries to teach, bringing his “flow easy, fight hard” philosophy to everyone from casual practitioners to professional athletes.

This seminar series will include stops in California, Texas, Florida, and New York, where participants can learn directly from the “Eel” himself.
